Youth & Adult Open Gym

Scheduled open gym hours for specific age groups and activities. Contact Community Center office to confirm current schedule. Community Center membership or guest fee required for all ages. Unstructured, supervised play in the gymnasium during after-school hours for youth grades K-8. Youth grades 6, 7 & 8 attend 2:30-5:00pm and elementary school age children (K-5) attend 4:00-6:00pm. Locker & shower facilities are available for adult open gyms; bring your own soap & towel! Residents of the City of Hilliard & Hilliard City School District only will be admitted to Wednesday & Thursday evening open gym; membership card or verification of residency will be required. Hours may change during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break, be sure to check holiday schedules.

J Hilliard School district resident membership: $20.00/year

J School age youth (grades K-8) guest fee: $2.00/day

J Hilliard high school students guest fee: $2.00/day – Hilliard school ID or HCC membership required

CAM II (weight room)*

Weight and exercise equipment is available for use during regular center hours. Community Center membership plus an additional monthly fee is required for use of the facility. An introductory appointment is required ($2.00); call ahead for an appointment. The facility is equipped with stationary bicycles and motorized treadmills as well as resistance equipment – no free weights. Open for use by anyone 14 & older (parent must attend introductory appointment with 14, 15, 16 & 17 year olds). Youth 14 & 15 years of age must have a parent in attendance at all times.

Karate

Class meets on Monday evenings and is open to anyone age 12 & older. An information sheet is available at the Hilliard Community Center or you may contact instructor Jason Smiley at 850-8547 for additional class background information.

Yoga*

Hatha Yoga is a profoundly transforming practice of deep and simple restorative movement that follows classical postures, breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques. Gain flexibility, energy and strength, learn to relax, be calm and unwind from stress. Each Yoga class (6 weeks) is composed of stretches to help participants’ physical issues/weaknesses suggested by the participant at the beginning of each class. It is suggested that participants NOT eat a heavy meal during the two hours prior to class time. Each participant should dress in comfortable, loose fitting clothing and bring a yoga mat to class. Advance registration is required.

Heartstrings

Come and share the joys of learning, playing and making music with your child. “Heartstrings” is an early childhood music and movement enrichment program where together, you and your child, newborn through age 5, develop a repertoire of delightful traditional children’s folk songs, nursery rhymes and games. Essential early childhood skills are nurtured and innate musical intelligence is refined as you joyfully share, explore, and integrate these activities into your child’s daily life. WeJoySing offers research based, developmentally appropriate classes for your child. Class size is limited to assure quality interaction with you and your child. Come play with us! Drama Kids

For over 20 years Drama Kids’ acclaimed, developmental drama program has been helping students to act confidently and speak clearly. Enthusiastic, qualified teachers and a dynamic learning environment motivate students to participate willingly and achieve their personal best, at all levels of development. We believe that enthusiastic students who can speak out clearly and relate confidently with their peers, develop skills that make the journey through life much easier. Above all, these classes are great fun! Join us for speech training, dialogue development, improvisation, creative drama and much more! No experience is necessary! Classes are held on Friday afternoon/evening at the Hilliard Community Center. For additional information or to register call 740-549-3386 (free call from Columbus).

Playschool

This program is offered for 3, 4 & 5 year old children living within the Hilliard School District (children must be completely potty-trained & not wearing “pull-ups”). Children 3 years of age attend 2 days/week (2 hrs./Tues. & Thurs.). Four year olds attend Mon./Wed./Fri. for 2 hours each day. There is a registration fee plus a monthly attendance fee (first and last month fee must be paid prior to first day of attendance). Non-refundable registration fee will be $25.00. A waiting list is currently being accepted for the 2007/2008 school year. Registration for the 2008/2009 school year begins spring of 2008 – date to be determined.

Preschool Tap Dance for 3, 4 & 5 yr olds

Children ages 3, 4 &5 are invited to learn the basics of tap dancing during a five (5) week program.

Children should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring tap shoes (or hard soled dress shoes…..no sandals, athletic shoes or other rubber soles).

Creative Movement

Preschool age youth 3, 4 & 5 year olds are invited to participate in a five (5) week creative

movement class. Youth will participate in fine movements of large and small motor

muscles as an introduction to ballet. Children should wear loose comfortable clothing and

athletic shoes or ballet slippers.

Hilliard School Spirit Bracelet

Show your school spirit! Design and make a bracelet in your school colors. You won’t believe how fun and easy it is to make your own jewelry in this class hosted by 1 Stop Bead Shop. This class is open to anyone 10 years and older.

Preschool Tumbling

Preschool youth (ages 3, 4 & 5) not enrolled in kindergarten will have the opportunity to learn and practice basic gymnastic skills and large motor skill development. Activities will be focused on balance, body awareness, coordination, flexibility, strength, physical fitness and FUN! Children should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes (no sandals, dress shoes or boots). Class size is limited.

Kickin’ Kids

Get your little kicker out of the house and into our gym to learn how to play soccer! This age appropriate, non-competitive class will teach the fundamentals and basic rules of soccer….while having a blast! We will introduce dribbling, trap stopping, and shooting. Be sure to have your child(ren) wear athletic shoes and comfy clothes! This program is open for children ages 4 & 5 not enrolled in kindergarten.
