Swim Lesson Descriptions and Important Swim Lesson Information -

·      The Swim America swim lesson program has 10 stations that participants move through at their own rate as they acquire the specific skills needed for each station.

·      The program is goal driven with an emphasis on swimming as a lifetime sport for health and fitness

·      Children enrolled in the program must be 3 years old by June 1 of the current year and fully toilet trained.  It is important that participants meet both of these requirements in addition to being able to participate in group lessons. This will ensure a more positive first swim lesson experience for our young enrollees.

·      Each child will advance through the program and master the skills for each station at their own pace.  Some skills take longer to master than others and the program is designed to be self paced.  Body size and muscle control can play a huge factor in how quickly certain skills are mastered.

·      Due to the fact that various children advance through the stations daily, the swim instructors will be changing as the needs of the program change.  Please view these changes as a positive change because children respond differently to different coaches and a new instructor may have a new idea to motivate your child to accomplish their goals.

Participation/Eligibility Policy – Swim lessons are offered to residents of the City of Hilliard and Hilliard school district ONLY.  Due to the large number of youth enrolled in the programs we are unable to accommodate children living outside the school district. Participation is limited to one session per child per summer. All children enrolled in the swim lesson program MUST be three years old by June 1 of the current year & toilet trained.  Additionally children, regardless of age, must be able to participate in group lessons; children must be able/willing to listen to and follow directions of instructors without disruption to the remainder of the class.  It is strongly recommended that children have an understanding of the English language.

Swim Lesson Rain/Make-up Policy – Swim lessons will be held at times when the combined water and air temperatures are 70 degrees or higher.  In the event of inclement weather, please call the pools one (1) hour prior to your scheduled swim lesson class time.  Hilliard East Swimming Pool and 876-2661 and Hilliard West Swimming Pool, 876-4296.  Make up classes (if the class is cancelled) due to bad weather will be scheduled for only one canceled class per session and will be held on the Friday of your scheduled week of swim lessons, at the same time, should the need arise.

Refund/transfer policy - All cancellation or change requests must be submitted in writing to the Deputy Recreation Director at least 7 days prior to the first day of the program.  All requests will be considered on an individual basis.  Any & all requests that may be approved for refund will be done minus a $5.00/program/person processing fee. Any refunds submitted after the above deadline will be considered only when documentation is provided for an approved hardship case. All  refunds will be by check only, no cash or charge refunds will be issued. A $5.00 processing fee will be charged for all transfers (per program/per person).  The processing fee will stand in effect in the event of any and all cancellations/transfers (including scheduling conflicts, illness, broken bones, child’s unwillingness to participate, etc.).  It is  the parent’s responsibility to make sure  young children are ready for a group lesson atmosphere; refunds for children who are not ready for the class will not be given after the class begins as the space is already taken and no longer available to those on the waiting list.

Observing Swim Lessons In order to provide the best learning environment, we suggest that family members observe lessons from the concession areas at both pools.  This allows for less distraction for students and provides a more comfortable environment for spectators.  If you find your child is continually trying to interact with you during their class, we encourage you to move out of the immediate area so that their attention remains focused on their instructor.

Swim Lesson Reminder Please make a note of the class time and date you have registered for.  Participants will not receive a reminder by mail or by phone of the class time and date for which they are registered.  Please mark you calendar immediately following registration.
