CAM II (weight room)*
Weight and exercise equipment is available for use
during regular center hours. Community
Center membership plus an additional monthly fee is required for use of the
facility. An introductory appointment
is required ($2.00); call ahead for an appointment. The facility is equipped with stationary bicycles and motorized
treadmills as well as resistance equipment – no free weights. Open for use by anyone 14 & older
(parent must attend introductory appointment with 14, 15, 16 & 17 year
olds). Youth 14 & 15 years of age
must have a parent in attendance at all times.

Class

NIA (fitness) *
NIA,
an acronym for Neuromuscular Integrative Action, also meaning, “with purpose”
in Swahili, offers a holistic approach to health. NIA offers a powerful fusion
of non-impact aerobics, martial arts, yoga and dance arts. NIA delivers a
mind-body workout that embraces individual creativity and self expression. NIA is for all ages, shapes, sizes and
fitness levels. NIA is designed to
allow you to move your body’s way. Come
and experience the joy of movement! A
free introductory class will be offered on Monday preceding the class
beginning. To register for the free class and/or the six week session of lessons call the Hilliard Community Center.

Walking for
Fitness*
This walking group is
targeted for active adults and active seniors looking for a social walking
group. Participatns will be encouraged
to complete a weekly walking log and to walk on their own as well as
participate in trips to area walking/fitness paths & local helath
walks. We’ll plan to have a kick-off
event in late summer/early fall and continue walking through the autumn
months. Look for additional information
in the spring of 2007 or contact Katie at 876-5200.
Adult Running
Club*
A staff person and runner
will oversee an adult running club for beginner to advanced ability levels with
a goal of running the Columbus Marathon in October of 2007. Whether your goal is to just finish the race
or to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon, Geoff will gear the
appropriate training program for you.
Get reconected with Hilliard as we use various trails throughout the
area as our training grounds. We will meet as a group, go at your own pace and
support each other along the way! Call

Yoga*
Hatha Yoga is a profoundly
transforming practice of deep and simple restorative movement that follows
classical postures, breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques. Gain flexibility, energy and strength, learn
to relax, be calm and unwind from stress.
Each Yoga class (6 weeks) is composed of stretches to help participants’
physical issues/weaknesses suggested by the participant at the beginning of
each class. It is suggested that
participants NOT eat a heavy meal during the two hours prior to class
time. Each participant should dress in
comfortable, loose fitting clothing and bring a yoga mat to class. Advance registration is strongly
recommended.

to “Dancing with the Stars”! Attend
this class and learn the popular ballroom dances to keep you moving on the
dance floor. This class will introduce
you to all the popular dance steps. Join with your partner for four great
evenings of dancing.

member of the Hilliard Police Department will instruct basic internet safety for your family. This course will cover: Identifying common scams; how children
become targets for harassment and more serious crimes; monitoring the activity
on your computer; setting up rules for computer use; and opening communications
with your child about the internet.

Computer Class – File
Management*
Prerequisite: Basic computers or equivalent
knowledge. File Management 1&2 will
provide hands-on experience. In this
class, you will learn how to save information, retrieve it, and organize that
information on your computer. Students
will learn about the various drives in which to save information. In the second half of the class, students
will learn how to install new programs (software) and customize your computer
to fit your specific needs through the computer control panel.

– Microsoft Excel*
(Making Financial
Easier) Pre-requisite: Basic computers or equivalent
knowledge. Whether it’s balancing your
check book, putting together the family budget or generating charts for work,
Microsoft Excel is the program for you.
Improve the way you turn your data into information using powerful tools
to analyze, communicate and share your results. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that will enable
students to track and manage data, addresses, financials, and more. Students will learn how to use Excel to
create simple spread sheets, perform detailed calculations, sort data and even
create colorful charts and graphs.

Class*
Participants in this class will
be introduced to recipes for three quick and easy soups that taste like they

Infant Sign
Language Workshop*
Can’t figure out why your
baby is crying? Infant sign language
can help. Join thousands of parents who
have learned to use sign language to communicate with their child before they
can talk. Sign language has also been
proven to help babies talk sooner. This
class is designed for adults (parents) only.
Great for parents of children under 24 month of age, expectant parents,
grandparents, and child care providers.
Advance registration is strongly encouraged. An additional materials fee of $26 for Parent Text Book is
payable to the teacher at the first class.

Scrapbooking*
Attention! Seeking all Scrapbookers! Tell everyone you have gone croppin’! Ever feel like there is not enough time in
your day or space in your home to work on those unfinished projects? We have the solution! Enjoy 5 hours of uninterrupted time in your
own individual space to learn new techniques, share ideas, meet new people and
of course CROP! Light refreshments will

Baby Item Garage Sale
Our
very popular Baby Item Garage Sale will be held at the Hilliard Community
Center & Hilliard Senior Center.
Infant, toddler, preschool (up to 5T) & Maternity items, including
clothing items, toys and miscellaneous accessories will be available in a community
garage sale setting. Application forms
are available at the Hilliard community Center if you are interested in renting
space to sell clean and gently used baby items. No commercial vendors.

Indoor Walking
The
Hilliard Community Center gymnasium is generally available for indoor walking
Monday through Friday 8:00am-9:00am and 1:00pm-2:00pm. Community Center or Senior Center membership
or a guest fee is required. Call ahead
to confirm availability.
Volleyball Leagues
Adult
volleyball leagues are offered at the Hilliard Community Center throughout the
year. Co-Rec power leagues play on
Sunday afternoons/evenings. Men’s league plays on Monday evenings and Women’s
league plays on Tuesday evenings. Adult
open volleyball is held on Friday evenings, 6-7:50pm and occasionally on off
league dates (membership or guest fee required). Open to persons 18 years of age and or older. New teams wishing to enter a league will be
added to a waiting list held by the league coordinators. Interested referees should contact league
coordinators at the Hilliard Community Center.
Basketball Leagues
Adult
basketball leagues will be held during the
summer months; contact the league coordinator to be added to a waiting
list if interested in joining the league.
Leagues play on Wednesday evenings.
Open to persons 18 years of age and older. Interested game officials should contact the League Coordinator
at the Hilliard Community Center. Adult
and high school open gyms are offered throughout the week; a current list of
open gym hours is available at the Hilliard Community Center.
Softball Leagues
Co-rec
leagues (summer) are organized by the Hilliard Recreation & Parks Dept.,
876-5200. Co-rec leagues open to
persons 18 years of age & older.
Men’s leagues are organized by Dick Clark, 876-4718. Call early to be put on a waiting list for
league openings.
Horseshoe Club*
The
Hilliard Horseshoe Club has been in existence since 1978 (originally called the
Iron Tossers) for the purpose of developing, fostering and promoting organized
horseshoe pitching in the Hilliard community.
This is a popular recreational pastime as well as a competitive game
with the club providing direction, organization and approved equipment when
necessary to enhance the sport. Two leagues exist, playing on Wednesday &
Thursday evenings at the Hilliard Municipal Park. Both leagues use a handicap system that is fair to all levels of
pitchers with leagues usually lasting 12 weeks. For additional information please contact Paul Burkitt at

Class Registration
In some cases,
registration for the classes may be done over the phone, provided payment is
made with VISA or MasterCard; payment is required at the time of registration
for all programs. Checks should be made
payable to “The City Of Hilliard”. A
service fee (as determined by the City of Hilliard Finance Department) will be
charged for all checks not honored by any bank.
Eligibility Policy
Classes are offered for residents of the City of
Hilliard and Hilliard School District; non-residents of the school district
will be placed on a waiting list until one week prior to the class beginning
and at that time filled as space allows.
Persons living outside the school district but employed within the “City
of Hilliard” (paying Hilliard city
income tax) will be eligible at the “school district resident” rates. To receive “resident rates” Hilliard City
residents will be required to provide verification of residency (valid drivers
license or state issued photo ID, current utility bill, or check with address
printed by the bank). Persons qualifying for participation by place of
employment will be required to provide proof of employment with a current
paycheck and drivers license. All programs for children 3 years and older will
require children to be fully “potty trained” in order to participate (meaning –
children should be able to take care of their own restroom needs, no diapers,
no pull ups, no rubber pants).
Refund/Transfer Policy
All
cancellations, refunds and change requests must be submitted in writing to the
Deputy Recreation Director at least one week prior to the first day of the
program. All requests will be considered
on an individual basis with consideration given to class minimum status and
materials purchasing deadlines. Any
request that is approved for refund will be done minus a $5/child/program
processing fee. A $5 fee will also be
assessed for all transfers and/or changes.
Refunds requested after the deadline or after a program begins will be
considered only when documentation is provided for an approved hardship
situation. All refunds will be by check
only; cash or charge refunds will not be issued. Allow 10-14 days for refunds to be processed. Please check you
calendar prior to program registration; Hilliard Recreation & Parks Dept.
staff will not be responsible for registration conflicts.
Assumption of Risk
All
participants should recognize and understand that classes/activities of a
physical nature involve some level of risk, and by registering for the
class/activity the participant (or participant’s guardian) has assumed
responsibility for that risk. The
Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department will make every effort to ensure
participant safety and to provide clean and secure facilities and parks. In the
event of serious illness or injury it is the policy of the City of Hilliard
Recreation & Parks Department to contact the Norwich Township Fire Department
for emergency and first aid treatment (911).
Attempts to contact parents/guardian of youth will be made in cases
where emergency contact information has been made available to staff.
Photo Release
By registering
for any Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department program/activity, you agree
to allow publication of any photos taken at any program/activity, event or
facility of the City of Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department.
Class dates
are subject to change during the course of the year and additional classes may
be added.
