Programs & Activities

Return to Top of Page

The Hilliard Community center offers a variety of programs and activities for all ages.  Class listings and registration information is included in this web site.  Classes listed are those that were known at the beginning of the current year. Additional classes may be added throughout the year.  Stop by the Hilliard community Center for a current program listing.

Eligibility Policy – Programs, activities and classes are offered for the residents of the City of Hilliard and the Hilliard School District; some activities require a slightly higher rate for School District members. Non-residents of the school district will be placed on a waiting list until one week prior to the class beginning and at that time filled as space allows. Persons living outside the school district, but working within the “City of Hilliard” (paying Hilliard city income tax) will be eligible at “school district resident” rates.

To receive resident rates, Hilliard city residents will be required to provide verification of residency (valid driver's license or state issued photo ID, current utility bill, or check with address printed by the bank). Persons qualifying by payment of city income tax will be required to provide proof of employment with a current paycheck and driver's license.

Even though you may have a Hilliard mailing address (zip code) you may not live within the Hilliard city limits; we ask for your understanding when registering and will make every attempt to accommodate your requests, or explain your situation.

Class Registration – In some cases, registration for classes may be done over the phone, provided payment is made with VISA or MasterCard; payment is required at the time of registration for all programs. Pool memberships, swim lessons and summer programs are exempt from phone registrations and are held during specified dates and times as listed in this brochure.

Assumption of Risk – All participants should recognize and understand that classes/activities of a physical nature involve some level or risk, and by registering for the class/program/activity the participant (or participant's guardian) has assumed responsibility for that risk. The Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department will make every effort to ensure participant safety and to provide clean and secure facilities and parks. In the event of serious illness or injury it is the policy of the City of Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department to contact the Norwich Township Fire Department for emergency and first aid treatment. Attempts to contact parents/guardian of youth will be made in cases where emergency contact information has been made available to staff.

Photo Release – Registration and participation in any Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department program or activity will serve as an agreement to allow publication of photos taken at any program/activity or facility associated with the City of Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department.

Refund/Transfer – All cancellation and refund/transfer requests should be submitted in writing to the Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department office at least one week (7 days) prior to the first day of the program/activity/class; all requests will be considered on an individual basis according to class minimum status and materials purchasing deadlines. All approved refunds will be assessed a minimum $5 program processing fee (per program/per person). Program transfer will be accessed the same $5 charge. Refunds requested after a class begins will be considered only when documentation is provided for an approved hardship situation.

Approved hardship situations are:

1.) Relocation to outside boundaries of Hilliard school district. Verification of relocation must be provided in the form of a letter from his/her Human Resource Department stating the person is being transferred/relocated and must include a forwarding address and phone number for verification. OR, house closing papers, in this case the closing date/move must take place prior to the beginning of the class/program in question. Advance notification of the move will be most helpful.

2.) Medical conditions which would prohibit participation in the program/activity; a letter from a physician stating that the participant is on a medical restriction must be provided.

Other hardship situations may be considered, but will require a written statement of hardship from an adult member of the immediate family.

All refunds will be by check only. Cash or charge refunds will not be issued. Allow 10-14 days for refunds to be processed.

Class Cancellations–If a class is cancelled or closed by the Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department, you will receive a full refund in the form of a check; cash or charge refunds will not be issued. The City of Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department reserves the right to cancel any class/ program/activity due to low enrollment.

Daytime classes (morning & afternoon) will be cancelled when “Hilliard City School District” classes are cancelled due to inclement weather. Decisions concerning evening programs/activities (after 5pm) will be made on a case-by-case basis determined by the level of snow or other emergency. Please always phone in advance in the event of inclement weather conditions.

The Hilliard Recreation & Parks Department reserves the right to close one or both pools early or for a period of time during the day in the event of inclement weather. If weather looks threatening or if inclement weather has just passed through the area...please call the pool prior to your departure.
