CLASS
ACTIVITY CARD—This
card is offered to those taking part in some health and fitness classes ($2.00
per class). The cost of the card is $15.00, for eight classes. You
may purchase your card from your instructor or at the Center office.
GET
FIT EXERCISE CLASS—This
exercise program takes place on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 9:15 AM.
This class uses free weights, balls, and other props, which are all
provided. Some exercises are standing and some are performed sitting in
chairs. The cost is $2.00 or an activity card.
BOWLING—This class meets at 9:30
AM
on Mondays at
Sawmill Lanes on Sawmill Rd. The
fee for 3 games is $4.25,
plus the $2.00 class fee. This
program is
not
a league, you pay
only when you play.
GOLF—The golf program
is
from May through September. This group meets at various golf courses.
There are different greens fees at each course, plus the $2.00 class fee.
The schedule of courses, times and fees is in the monthly newsletter. An
organizational meeting is held in April.
LINE DANCE—Line dancing is a great way to
exercise
and no partner is needed. The beginners/intermediate class meets on
Tuesdays at 2:15 PM. The class fee is $2.00. The advanced group
meets at 1:15 on Tuesdays. This group occasionally performs at area
nursing homes and competitions.
INDOOR WALKING— Indoor walking is available
at the Community Center from 8:00 – 9:00 AM and from
1:00 – 2:00 PM. One mile is 18.5 times around the gym. No fee.
You may be asked to show your membership card.
STRENGTH TRAINING— Cam II fitness equipment
and motorized treadmills are available at the Community Center. There is a monthly fee of $5.00 payable to the Community Center.
You must have a guided orientation on the use of this equipment ($2.00). Call the Community Center at 876-5200 to schedule an orientation.
WATER AEROBICS—This program meets at the
Staybridge Suites. The
class fee is $2.00 per class. Two levels of classes are
offered. Please check with center staff for class descriptions.
CHAIR
VOLLEYBALL—Chair
volleyball is held the 1st & 3rd Friday of every month
at 10:30 AM. Chair volleyball involves two teams who volley a beach ball
across a net. The game is similar to regular volleyball except the players
must remain seated, there are unlimited hits to return the ball and the serve
rotates not the players.
TAP DANCING —This
class meets on Tuesday
mornings at 9:30 AM. This group
performs in conjunction with the choir.
POOL—Members may shoot pool any time the
Center is open. No charge.
HEALTH
NURSE—The
Health Nurse from
Franklin County Board of Health is at the Senior Center the third Thursday of
each month. You can have your blood pressure checked, a glucose check,
your weight monitored and questions answered.
CHOLESTEROL
SCREENING—The
health nurse also
checks your cholesterol the third Thursday of every month by appointment.
You will receive your results immediately. You must fast for 12 hours
before the test. You may take your medication with a minimal amount of
water.
TAI
CHI FOR HEALTH—meets
Wednesday afternoons at 2:00 PM. The cost is $3.00 per class.
YOGA—meets
Monday afternoons at 2:00 PM. The cost is $30.00 for a 4 week session.
HEALTH
FAIRS/HEALTH SCREENINGS—Various
health screenings, such as mammograms, are offered by the Center throughout the
year. These screenings are announced in the newsletter.
MANICURES/PEDICURES—Pedicures
and manicures are given the first and third Tuesdays of every
month. You need to schedule an appointment through the Senior Center
office. The cost is $25.00 for a pedicure and $18.00 for a manicure.
CRAFT CLASS —Meets on Wednesday mornings at
10:00 AM.
The class works on
various projects for fund raising for the Center. All supplies
are provided. There is no fee.
OPEN
STUDIO—-Friday mornings at
9:30 AM come into the Center's craft room and work on your painting or drawing
project on your own.
HELPING
ANGELS—Meet
on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 10:00 AM to make crocheted and knitted items for
chemo patients and babies.
ONE
STROKE PAINTING CLASS—is
offered the third Friday of every month. Current project to be painted is
on display. The fee is $25.00. You must sign up in advance.
DAILY
LUNCH PROGRAM—The Center offers a hot lunch
Tuesday through Thursday at noon. Food is prepared on site by our cooking staff.
The menus are printed in the newsletter. The cost is $3.50. You can call the Center
to sign up for a meal, or stop in the Center, and sign the yellow tablet on the
reception desk. Advanced reservations are encouraged, but we will accept
reservations by 9:30 AM the day of the meal.
HOLIDAY
MEALS—The Center
has special holiday meals i.e.: Thanksgiving, Christmas, which we do request,
advance sign up and payment.
MEAL TICKET—We
also offer a meal ticket for $20.00 (six regular meals). Meal
tickets can be purchased from the office. Special meals at holiday times of the year are not covered
under this plan,
however this card may be used for the monthly prayer luncheons.
MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM—The local
Kiwanis organization offers a free transportation program for
trips to and from medical
and dental appointments within Franklin County. This service is provided between the hours of 9:00
AM and 3:00 pm Monday
through Friday. You must be a
resident of the Hilliard City School District to take part in this program.
If you wish to use this service, please call the Center to make arrangements at least 48 hours
in advance.
GOLDEN BUCKEYE CARD—You may sign up for a
Golden Buckeye card at the Center if you are 60 or older
or disabled. You must furnish a driver's license or proof of age or
disability.
SCHOOL PASS —School passes for free admission
to school events may be obtained at the Center. You must be 55 years of age, a resident of the Hilliard School District
and a member of the Center. If you
are not a member of the Center you must be 62 years of age. The passes are good at both high
schools. The passes are honored
at many
school events. The exceptions are
tournaments, play-offs and the spring musicals.
INCOME TAX PREPARATION —Representatives
trained through AARP are at the Center from February through April 15.
A scheduled appointment is necessary. There is no fee charged for this service.
You may now E file your taxes.
OSHIPP VOLUNTEER—We
have an OSHIPP (Ohio Senior Health Information Information) counselor available
to assist you. She can help you understand and sort out problems with Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplemental insurance
policies, long term care insurance, retirement health plans, and other health
insurance. Call the Center to schedule your one on one appointment.
SPEAKERS, SEMINARS,
ETC.—Throughout
the year the Center offers various speakers and
seminars. These are announced in the monthly newsletter.
AARP
DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM—This
program is offered twice a year for those 55 and older. This is an 8-hour
classroom refresher course, which helps older drivers improve their skills and
prevent traffic accidents. The monthly newsletter will announce the dates
of this course. The
course fee is $10.00. Some
insurance companies offer discount rates upon completion of this course.
FLU VACCINE/PNEUMONIA VACCINE—The flu and
the pneumonia vaccine will be offered by appointment only at the Center on November
7th, 2007. Call 876-8747 to schedule an appointment.
LOCAL SHOP—The
1st
& 3rd Fridays of
every month the Center bus will pick you up at your home (you must live in the city
limits) to take you shopping at a local shopping center. Call the Center to
reserve a seat on the bus by Thursday before each shopping trip. The
monthly newsletter will announce the destination..
The cost is $2.00 round trip.
LIBRARY—There
is a library in the Center. Besides books the library has audio
books, a small supply of videos as well as large print books and senior
information. Please check out books and return them in the office.
We also have an audio library. Please check these out in the office.
COMPUTERS—The
computers and printer are housed in the library. They are available during
the Center's regular hours and there is Internet access.
REFERRALS—We can assist you with
phone
numbers and information about other services
for seniors.
EUCHRE—This group meets on Wednesdays at
1:00 pm.
There is no fee for this program.
BRIDGE —This group meets on Thursdays at 1:00
PM.
There is no fee
for this program.
DUPLICATE BRIDGE —This
bridge group meets on the
1st and 3rd Mondays at 12:30 PM.
PINOCHLE—This
group meets on
Mondays at 12:30 PM and Thursdays at 1:00 PM. There is no fee for this
program.
REFRESHER BRIDGE —This group meets on
Wednesday mornings
at 9:30 AM.
DOMINOS—Meets on
the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at
1:00 pm.
CHESS—Meets on
Tuesdays at 10:00 AM.
The
following is a brief description of some of our most popular programs.
Many, many other programs are available. Please check your monthly
newsletter for current offerings. The Center offers many trips and tours
throughout the year. All trips are announced in the monthly newsletter
with a designated date for sign ups to begin.
HAPPINESS CLUB—A
monthly luncheon is held the second Friday of
every month at noon. The cost of the lunch is $4.00. Advanced
reservations are required. Please call and make a reservation by the
Tuesday before the
luncheon.
PRAYER LUNCHEON—A
prayer luncheon is
held the last Friday of every month at noon. The cost is $3.50 or you may use
a lunch coupon. After lunch an area minister presents a message.
CHOIR—This group meets on Tuesday mornings
at 10:30 AM. They perform at
area nursing homes, etc. FREE
COMPUTER
CLASSES—Computer
classes are available at the Center. The instructor is provided by Web-Wise for
seniors. It is $44.00 for four hours of instruction.
RED
HAT SOCIETY—This
group meets at various times throughout the year for fun and
socialization.
BIBLE STUDY—This
nondenominational group meets weekly on Mondays at 10:30 AM.
BINGO —Bingo is played on Mondays and
Thursdays at 1:00 PM. $1.75 for 2 cards.
FAMILY
LEGACY—Join
us once a month as you write your story for your family to enjoy. FREE
GARAGE
SALE—The
sale is held in March every year. The
proceeds benefit the Senior Center.
CHICKEN
NOODLE DINNER—This
annual dinner is held in the fall. The dinner
includes homemade chicken, noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce and
pie. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Seniors
in the Schools, service circle, desk receptionist, fund raisers, newsletter
collating, banquets, library, and choir.
The
Hall of Fame committee will induct its newest honorees on Sunday, October 5,
2008 at 2:00 PM. Selection is based on merits and accomplishments of each
nominee. Nominees must have been a resident of the Hilliard City School
District for the past 5 years or longer and may not hold public office.
Nomination forms and submission criteria are available at the Hilliard Senior
Center, Hilliard Community Center, Hilliard Municipal Offices and the Hilliard
library. The deadline for submission is August 1, 2008.
